News: Car crash sparks I-90 brush fire near Moses Lake

FEDERAL WAY, WA — A minivan collision Monday afternoon sparked a brush fire along Interstate 90 near Moses Lake, according to KPQ News.

The two events happened near the exit to Hiawatha Road Northeast at around 4:00 p.m.

According to Washington State Patrol, a 27-year-old Bremerton resident was driving a minivan along I-90 eastbound when it veered to the right of the road, crashed through the fence to Frontage Road and returned to I-90, coming to a rest along the right shoulder. The car caught fire, soon causing the surrounding brush to set aflame.

Fire crews had the fire controlled under an hour. I-90 eastbound was closed for approximately fifteen minutes during the incident.

No injuries were reported to the van driver or the sole passenger, a 28-year-old Seattle resident.

The driver faced charges for driving without a license or insurance, as well as improper lane usage.

An investigation into the crash is in progress.
