SEATTLE, WA – A bus driver struck and killed two women in a pedestrian collision near Broadway and Alder Street Tuesday morning, according to KIRO 7.
The transport bus was in a parking lot adjacent to a retirement residence on Terrace Street when the driver accidentally backed into a smoking shelter while maneuvering the bus around 10:30 a.m. Two elderly women were struck. A third woman was able to get out of the way of the bus without injuries.
First responders pronounced the two women, one in their 70s and one in their 80s, dead at the scene.
Following the collision, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police. Authorities determined the driver was not impaired and released him from custody.
