PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Authorities released photos Monday of a man believed to be connected to a hit-and-run crash that killed a 12-year-old girl and critically hurt another in Midland, reports KOMO News.
The fatal incident took place on 104th Street East, a short distance from the victim’s family residence, on Saturday, January 15 at around 12:30 p.m.
The two 12-year-old girls were walking along the street when they were struck by a flatbed truck whose driver fled the scene.
One of the young victims died from her injuries at the site while the other was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. As of this writing, the second victim is now recovering at home.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has since learned the suspect vehicle had been stolen from a business earlier in the day of the crash. They later located the abandoned truck and were able to capture photos of the suspect from a surveillance camera installed in a convenience store.
In the images, the male suspect is seen wearing dark clothing and a yellow reflective vest.
The search and investigation remains ongoing.
