News: Authorities charge man with vehicular homicide for fatal DUI crash in Everett

EVERETT, WA – According to KOMO, authorities have charged a man with a deadly DUI wreck near Evergreen Way and West Marilyn Avenue on Saturday. 

Victor Perez-Cortes, 45, was a passenger in a 2025 Kia K4 that was pulled over by a trooper at Evergreen Way and West Marilyn Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

The trooper was conducting a field sobriety test on the driver when the driver ran off and got back into the Kia. 

Perez-Cortes moved into the driver’s seat and the original driver got into the passenger’s seat. Perez-Cortes sped off. 

Troopers pursued Perez-Cortes as he headed north on Evergreen Way. He eventually crashed into a building. The passenger died in the collision. 

Police found several open containers of alcohol and crack cocaine inside the Kia. 

First responders transported Perez-Cortes to an area hospital. A breath sample revealed his BAC was .27, over three times the legal limit. 

Authorities arrested Perez Cortes and charged him with vehicular homicide. He is being held on a $2 million bond.
