News: At least 1 seriously hurt in rollover semi crash on I-5 near DuPont

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Serious injuries were reported Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle wreck involving a jackknifed semi-truck on Interstate 5 near DuPont, according to KOMO News.

The accident happened on the northbound side of I-5 at Mounts Road Southwest and Nisqually Road Southwest (Exit 116). It was first tweeted by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) shortly after 5:30 a.m.

While the sequence of events leading up to the crash remain unclear, the Washington State Patrol indicated that at least one involved person was seriously injured.

The semi-truck, which had jackknifed and overturned during the wreck, reduced northbound traffic to a single open lane, causing a 10-mile traffic backup that stretched beyond Lacey and into Olympia.

Motorists were urged to find alternate routes around the scene as crews worked to get the semi upright and clear the scene.

An investigation by the WSP was underway.
