SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — Authorities responded to a major injury collision Thursday morning on Interstate 5 in Marysville, according to KOMO News.
The accident happened on a span of I-5 near Exit 199 to State Route 528 and was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) at about 7:20 a.m.
A preliminary investigation by the Washington State Patrol indicates one driver was traveling southbound on I-5 when they suffered an apparent medical emergency, causing their vehicle to strike the barrier. The vehicle then entered the northbound lanes, where it collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
At this time, the WSP has not disclosed the number of people injured or the severity of patient conditions.
All northbound lanes of I-5 were shut down in the immediate aftermath. Motorists were allowed to get by the scene through the shoulder of the freeway, but were re-routed at Fourth Street. By 9:00 a.m., a traffic backup had stretched down to the US Highway 2 interchange in Everett.
Shortly before 9:30 a.m., all lanes were reopened to the public.
No further information has been shared at this time.
