News: Alleged DUI driver in custody after causing injury crash in Fife

FIFE, WA – An alleged DUI driver was put into custody after causing an injury crash that sent another driver to a hospital on Friday, King5 reports. 

The incident unfolded when a Washington State Patrol trooper spotted a 30-year-old man going at a rate of 102 mph on southbound I-5. The trooper attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to pull over and kept driving until he crashed into another vehicle and then a jersey barrier on Port of Tacoma Road. 

The suspect, a 30-year-old male, tried to “put up a fight with the Washington State Patrol trooper. The trooper then put him into custody on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, eluding, and resisting arrest. 

EMS crews were dispatched to the scene and transported the other driver to a hospital for treatment.

Officials shut down the southbound I-5 near Port of Tacoma Road and left one HOV traffic lane open.

All lane closures were lifted by 11 a.m.
