SEATTLE, WA — Seven people were hurt Saturday morning in a crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 5 near Seattle Convention Center in downtown Seattle, according to The Bellingham Herald.
Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the scene on the southbound interstate near the Pike Street exit at about 8;36 a.m.
Authorities said all four vehicles were traveling in the express lanes when two of the vehicles, a 2012 Jeep and a 2016 Honda Civic, stopped for traffic. A 1996 Nissan 200SX then abruptly stopped, but the fourth vehicle, a 2018 Ram 1500 pickup truck, was unable to stop in time. The pickup collided with the Nissan, which caused the Nissan to strike the Civic. The impact of that crash caused the Civic to spin and hit the Jeep, while the pickup also rotated and slammed into the Civic.
All four involved vehicles came to rest in the roadway, fully blocking the express lanes.
Seven occupants between three vehicles were injured, but only two patients were transported to Harborview Medical Center.
The driver of the Ram 1500, a 19-year-old Shoreline man, was the only person not injured in the crash.
All express lanes remained closed for over six hours during the response and investigation.
No further details have been shared, but the WSP listed “speeds too fast for conditions” as the cause of the wreck.
