SEATTLE, WA — Authorities were called to a multi-vehicle wreck Wednesday morning on Interstate 5 on Seattle’s Ship Canal Bridge, according to KOMO News.
The accident occurred on the southbound lanes near the mid-span of the bridge, just before State Route 520. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation at about 8:30 a.m.
Officials have not disclosed a possible cause of the crash, but the Washington State Patrol confirmed up to five vehicles were impacted. Medics, WSP troopers, and the King County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene, but no serious injuries were reported.
In the immediate aftermath, all southbound lanes were briefly shut down, forcing traffic to get by through the shoulder and creating long delays.
Even as tow crews arrived on scene at 9:00 a.m. to remove the wreckage, delays continued to linger.
By 9:40 a.m., WSDOT said a 3-mile backup had formed on the southbound express lanes, and traffic was backed up four miles on the southbound I-5 mainline from the North 85th Street offramp.
An investigation remains ongoing.
