KING COUNTY, WA — Five people, including two 11-year-old girls, died early Sunday after a crash off State Route 512 in south Puyallup, according to KOMO News.
Washington State Patrol officials said the fatal wreck occurred on the eastbound lanes at the 31st Street Southwest overpass, some time around 4:20 a.m.
A preliminary investigation found that five people were traveling eastbound in a silver 2017 Ford Flex when the vehicle ran off the roadway after failing to negotiate a curve. The Ford collided with a concrete support pillar at the base of the overpass before catching fire.
WSP confirmed that all five occupants were pronounced deceased. The decedents include the driver, a 29-year-old Sumner resident, and two 11-year-old girls from Tacoma. No information about the other two victims have been shared.
The crash caused part of the eastbound highway to close for several hours.
An investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains underway. Anyone who have more information is encouraged to contact the WSP.
