LAKE STEVENS, WA – A person was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and five people were sent to a hospital following a three-vehicle crash that happened on Tuesday.
Washington State Patrol told King5 that the events unraveled before 8 p.m. on U.S. Highway 2. A trooper attempted to pull over a driver who they saw driving erratically. The driver did not listen to law enforcement and kept driving before crashing into three vehicles.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene again, this time on foot. Troopers claimed the suspect tried to climb over a concrete wall and ran before being caught and arrested on suspicion of DUI.
EMS crews took the driver, two adults, and two children to a hospital. The driver was left with unspecified injuries, while the adults and children were taken to the emergency room as a precaution.
The driver was later released and faces the following charges: DUI, reckless driving, felony eluding, obstruction, and hit and run.
Officials shut down the area and redirected traffic toward Homeacres Road. Backups could be seen on I-5 as crews worked to clean up the debris from the crash.
All of eastbound U.S. 2 reopened Wednesday morning.
