BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA – Three teenage girls died in a single-vehicle accident on Bainbridge Island on Tuesday that police say was likely the result of excessive speed, KOMO News reports.
The collision took place in the 11000 block of Sunrise Drive at about 9 p.m. on March 16, when the girl behind the wheel of a southbound vehicle lost control, causing the car to plunge off the roadway, strike multiple trees, and finally overturn. All three occupants—two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old—were killed in the crash. They were students at Bainbridge High School and played together on the volleyball team.
Hundreds of friends and acquaintances remembered the victims at a candlelight vigil held at Waterfront Park yesterday evening.
Police investigations are ongoing, although initial reports suggest that speed was a major factor in the incident.
