KITTITAS COUNTY, WA — Three people, including a child, died early Thursday after a wreck on Interstate 90 near Easton that left two others injured, reports KOMO News.
The Washington State Patrol said the fatal crash happened on the eastbound lanes at Exit 74 to Nelson Siding Road, in the Cle Elum area. It was first reported at about 1:45 a.m.
An early investigation indicates a 42-year-old Pasco man was driving a semi-truck, with UPS logos, westbound. At one point, for reasons still unknown, the semi veered past the median and hit an eastbound passenger car carrying three adults and two children.
Two adults, aged 40 and 27, and a 10-year-old child, all of Yakima, were pronounced deceased on the scene.
A 36-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child were rushed to Kittitas Valley Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The semi driver was not reported hurt. At this time, authorities have not released any information regarding potential charges.
A section of the eastbound interstate was blocked off at Cabin Creek (milepost 63), about 10 miles east from the summit of Snoqualmie Pass. Westbound lanes reopened at about 2:30 a.m., but the eastbound closure would remain in place for multiple hours until officials announced the reopening at 1:45 p.m.
