News: 29-year-old woman killed in rollover crash near fire station in Tacoma

TACOMA, WA – The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 29-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash near a fire station in Tacoma on Saturday morning, reports Shore News Network.

The Graham Fire Department station in the 12800 block of 224th Street East called to report a rollover crash that occurred in front of the station at 7:33 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9th.

Authorities say the crash involved a single vehicle that left the roadway while traveling westbound on 224th Street East. The car then hit a ditch, causing it to spin across the driveway of the station and roll onto its side in the road.

The driver, a 29-year-old woman who owned the vehicle and lived just blocks away, was not wearing a seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The speed limit of the roadway is 45 mph and investigators believe an excessive speed on icy roadway conditions contributed to the crash. There were no passengers involved.

The department’s traffic unit is still investigating the circumstances of the collision along with the medical examiner’s office. This blog will be updated if more information is released.
