SEATTLE, WA — Four SPD officers were injured Tuesday morning while trying to pursue a DUI suspect in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, according to KOMO News.
Seattle Police said the events unfolded in the area of South Michigan Street and 6th Avenue South, shortly after 5:45 a.m.
An SPD spokesperson said officers were initially trying to pull over a “suspicious” vehicle near a business when the driver, a 34-year-old man, sped away. He was later found standing outside the vehicle at the Georgetown intersection and reportedly attempted to fight officers while re-entering his vehicle.
The department said two officers were dragged and a police vehicle was struck by the suspect vehicle as the driver tried to flee.
The suspect vehicle was eventually pinned between two SPD vehicles, allowing officers to apprehend the suspect.
A total of four SPD officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Harborview Medical Center to be evaluated.
The suspect, who sustained minor injuries considered non-life-threatening, has since been arrested. He faces charges of “assault, suspected DUI and eluding,” and was set to be booked into King County Jail.
All westbound lanes were blocked off for nearly four hours during an investigation, but reopened shortly before 10:10 a.m.
