News: 2 seriously hurt in multi-vehicle crash on I-5 in South Lake Union

SEATTLE, WA — Two people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a multi-vehicle wreck involving a semi-truck on Interstate 5 near Seattle’s South Lake Union area, reports King 5.

The accident took place on the southbound lanes of the interstate near Mercer Street shortly before 9:00 a.m.

Seattle Fire crews were called to the scene for a rescue extrication after two occupants were trapped in a vehicle when it became wedged under the semi.

Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The interstate’s express lanes were closed around 9:30 a.m. and traffic was diverted onto Mercer Street.

Shortly after, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) also closed the express lanes at Northgate.

No further updates have been released at this time.
