News: 2 seriously hurt in chain reaction crash near Hood Canal Bridge

JEFFERSON COUNTY, WA — Two people were seriously injured Wednesday morning in a multi-vehicle collision near the Hood Canal Bridge in Port Ludlow, according to Kitsap Sun.

The Washington State Patrol said the events unfolded on State Highway 104 about a mile west of the bridge, shortly before 9:50 a.m.

An early investigation found a 39-year-old male driver had failed to stop for eastbound traffic that had been stalled during a closure of the bridge. Authorities said he collided with a vehicle directly ahead, driven by a 71-year-old Alaska man.

Both the causing driver and the victim driver suffered serious injuries and were transported to Harborview Medical Center.

No other injuries were reported, though four other vehicles also sustained damage as a result of the crash.

WSP troopers determined the 39-year-old man had been following the victim driver too closely and said he faces charges of negligent driver. Intoxication was not a suspected factor.

An investigation impacted traffic for nearly five hours.
