PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A teenager and a young adult died early Sunday after a wrong-way wreck that injured two others on Interstate 705 near downtown Tacoma, reports KOMO News.
The Washington State Patrol said the events unfolded on the northbound lanes at the interchange with Interstate 5, shortly after 12:00 a.m.
A memo from the WSP indicates a 37-year-old Gig Harbor man was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound on northbound I-705 when the vehicle hit a Honda Accord.
The driver of the Accord, a 20-year-old Tacoma resident, and one of his passengers, a 17-year-old male Puyallup resident, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 15-year-old female passenger in the Accord and a 27-year-old female passenger in the F-150 were both transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
It was unclear whether the driver of the F-150 was injured, but the WSP said he was under the influence at the time of the crash. The suspect was arrested now faces charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. He is expected to make his first court appearance on the afternoon of Monday, April 3.
