NEAR DUPONT, WA – Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI after two separate crashes that occurred near DuPont on Sunday, Kiro7 said.
The first collision occurred on I-405 South, north of I-5. The driver of a gold Ford 4×4 pickup told Washington State Patrol that he swerved to avoid hitting a car in front of him, leading him to crash his vehicle. His pickup truck overturned as a result and he was left with non-life-threatening injuries.
WSP arrested him on suspicion of driving impairment and took him into custody and impounded his truck.
The second crash took place on I-5 North near Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. WSP said a Nissan Rogue and a Honda Accord were involved. One of the drivers reportedly rear-ended the other.
The force of the collision caused a Nissan Rogue to crash into a right shoulder ditch and the Honda Accord into a left shoulder ditch.
WSP said a 36-year-old woman from Everett was responsible for the rear-ended collision, and arrested her on suspicion of DUI and vehicular assault.
The two Nissan occupants, two men in their 20s and from Hawaii, were left with serious injuries.
Officials shut down two I-5 northbound lanes until 9 a.m. for the investigation process. During the closures, the Washington State Department of Transportation helped with traffic control.
