News: 1 killed in suspected DUI crash on SR-99 onramp near Seattle’s Lumen Field

SEATTLE, WA — One person died early Thursday after a vehicle crashed and caught fire on the State Route 99 entrance ramp in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, reports King 5.

The fiery crash occurred on the onramp from South Dearborn Street to the southbound lanes of SR-99, near Lumen Field. It was first reported by the Seattle Police Department just after midnight.

Authorities have not released the sequence of events, but the driver and sole occupant of an SUV is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the wreck. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.

Parts of South Dearborn Street and Alaskan Way South near Lumen Field were shut down for nearly four hours during the response and initial investigation. Shortly after 4:15 a.m., the scene had been cleared.

An investigation by the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
