News: 1 killed in crash involving disabled vehicle on I-5 near SeaTac

KING COUNTY, WA — A 23-year-old Sequim man died early Saturday after his car was rear-ended by another vehicle on Interstate 5 near south SeaTac, according to Kent Reporter.

The fatal accident happened on the southbound side just north of South 216th Street, at around 2:17 a.m.

An early investigation by the Washington State Patrol found the Sequim man’s vehicle had become disabled in lane one when a second vehicle approached from behind. The driver of the second vehicle, a 49-year-old Federal Way man, ended up hitting the back of the stalled vehicle despite attempts to avoid a crash.

Officials said the Sequim man died from his injuries at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.

The Federal Way driver received treatment for undisclosed injuries at the scene.

At this time, no other details have been provided, but the WSP listed the “blocked lane of travel” as the cause of the fatal crash.
