News: 1 killed, 1 injured in fiery wreck on I-405 SB near south Renton

KING COUNTY, WA — One person died early Sunday after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 405 near south Renton, reports King 5.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes at Talbot Street, north of the State Route 167 interchange. It was first reported by the Washington State Patrol shortly before 3:00 a.m.

Details remain limited, but the WSP said one vehicle was heading northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with a second vehicle. Both vehicles became engulfed in flames as they came to rest in the HOV lane moments following the impact. Drugs and alcohol were determined to have been contributing factors in the accident.

Multiple good samaritans were observed pulling over to the shoulder to assist the victims before first responders arrived, but one person was pronounced deceased. Another person was rushed to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Multiple southbound lanes of I-405 were blocked north of SR-167 following the collision but were reopened shortly after 7:45 a.m.
