News: 1 dead, 1 hospitalized after crash on I-705 offramp in Tacoma

TACOMA, WA — One person died following a crash Saturday afternoon, August 25, in Tacoma that left another person injured, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.

Washington State Patrol officials said the wreck occurred on the ramp connecting southbound Interstate 705 to northbound Interstate 5. Troopers were dispatched to the scene at about 1:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that a car was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when its driver tried to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle ended up running off the interstate and overturning. Investigators noted that recent rainfall had left the roads slick prior to the crash.

First responders pronounced the driver deceased at the scene. Their passenger was rushed to Tacoma General Hospital for unspecified injuries.

WSP had the ramp shut down for about three and a half hours to accommodate the emergency response and investigation.
