EDMONDS, WA – Fire crews with the South County Fire Department were forced to close down a portion of Highway 99 after a truck carrying hazardous materials caught fire Wednesday morning.
According to My Edmonds News, the roadway was shut down between 230th St. and 234th St. for several hours while the fire was put out and chemicals were safely cleaned from the roadway.
Two people were taken to Swedish Edmonds Hospital to be treated for shortness of breath as the result of inhaling the toxic fumes. A third person was assessed and released from the scene.
Details regarding the cause of the fire remain under investigation as of this writing.
