Washingtonians are gearing up for the 249th birthday of the United States on July 4th. If you are like most people, you probably already have plans for the holiday.
Regardless of what you will be doing around the state, we want to remind everyone that this week’s celebrations pose an added danger to motorists and passengers.
More traffic equals danger
You don’t have to embark on a long journey to still face the challenges of more traffic on the roads. Sometimes, just getting across town during peak travel times is frustrating enough. That’s why everyone who has plans should factor in some extra drive time. Leaving 30 minutes early could get you to the fireworks on time and in one piece.
Beware of drunken drivers
Holidays are times we get together with friends and loved ones. Many of those celebrations may include drinking alcohol — which is fine, as long as the one drinking isn’t the same one who’s driving. Remember, too, that a sober driver is never the least drunk one! Sober means just that.
If you see a motorist operating their vehicle erratically, they may be intoxicated. Pull over to the side and place a quick call to law enforcement, alerting them of the road hazard. You certainly don’t want to share the road with them.
If you get into an accident
Make sure to call law enforcement to the scene to document the wreck. Then, get your injuries treated. This serves to document that the injuries came from the car accident and thus were the fault of the negligent driver who struck you.
