MOUNT VERNON, WA – One person died, and another was hurt following a three-vehicle collision on I-5 Southbound near Mount Vernon Saturday night, according to KING 5.
A driver hit a cable barrier and came to rest, blocking the second lane around 11:15 p.m. A second vehicle driven by a 39-year-old man hit the first car before coming to rest in the same lane facing north. A third vehicle hit the second vehicle.
First responders pronounced the 39-year-old man dead at the scene and transported an 18-year-old woman from his vehicle to an area hospital. Nobody else was hurt in the crash.
Crews shut down the area to process the scene. It was reopened around 2:30 a.m.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.
