TUMWATER, WA – According to KOMO, a police pursuit ended in a deadly crash near Tumwater Blvd SE and Capitol Blvd SE on Nov. 14.
A Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy witnessed a Dodge Charger driver traveling 62 mph in a 35 mph zone around 10 p.m.
The deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on Yelm Hwy SE but the driver fled at high speeds.
The driver turned onto Tumwater Blvd SE and ran a red light at the intersection with Capitol Blvd SE before plowing into a Ford Focus driven by Dan Nielsen, 33.
First responders performed life-saving measures on Nielsen before pronouncing him dead at the scene.
The driver was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. They were then booked at Thurston County Jail for vehicular homicide, eluding a police vehicle, and second-degree murder.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.
Authorities do not believe impairment was a factor in the collision.
