News: Driver in deadly crash in Puyallup had BAC over twice the legal limit

PUYALLUP, WA – According to KING 5, the driver in a fatal single-vehicle crash on State Route 512 EB near State Route 161 on Jan. 14 was impaired.

Kiarra Monaghan, 29, had a BAC of .201%. The state’s legal limit is .08%.

Monaghan was driving a Ford Flex east on WA 512 at over 100 mph when she crashed into a support pillar for an overpass around 4:30 a.m.

One person was ejected from the vehicle in the wreck. The car then caught on fire, killing the four people inside. They were Monaghan, a 3-year-old, two 11-year-olds, and a 12-year-old.

Hours before the crash, Monaghan posted on social media videos of her drinking with friends around 1:30 a.m.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.
