SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA – Authorities say a 45-year-old man was driving under the influence of intoxicants when his vehicle hit and killed a 1-year-old child Friday night in Lynnwood, reports FOX 13 Seattle.
The fatal incident took place on a driveway off Beverly Park Road, in the city’s Picnic Point area, at around 7:00 p.m.
According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the young child was playing in the front yard of a home with two other siblings and their parent. At one point, a 45-year-old man, a roommate of the household, pulled into the driveway as he arrived home and struck the child with his vehicle.
Despite aid from responding deputies and EMS personnel, the child succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The male driver, whose blood was tested for intoxicants, is accused of being impaired by a depressant and marijuana at the time of the incident. He was arrested and booked into Snohomish County Jail pending an investigation into vehicular homicide. Detectives say the intoxicants likely played a role in the crash. Following a court appearance on Friday, his bail was set at $500,000.
