KING COUNTY, WA — Authorities were dispatched to a multi-vehicle accident Monday morning that blocked sections of Interstate 5 in northeast Everett, according to KOMO News.
The collision took place on the southbound lanes of I-5 just before Marine View Drive. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation at 6:55 a.m.
While the events leading up to the accident remain undisclosed, all southbound lanes and two left northbound lanes of I-5 were closed during the emergency response and investigation.
By 7:50 a.m., the northbound lanes were reopened to traffic, and while multiple southbound lanes were cleared for about 20 minutes, crews had the area shut down again at 8:10 a.m. to remove the vehicles from the roadway.
Although WSDOT announced a full reopening of the southbound interstate at 8:50 a.m., commuters were warned of a 7.5-mile traffic backup impacting the area. Alternate routes were recommended.
The cause of the wreck remains unclear, and no injuries have been confirmed.
