KITSAP COUNTY, WA — One man lost his life and multiple people were injured Tuesday night as a result of a rear-end collision on Jackson Avenue in East Port Orchard, reports FOX 13 Seattle.
The fatal wreck took place at the intersection with Devonshire Place, along South Kitsap Regional Park. Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the scene at around 9:24 p.m.
Officials learned that a Chevrolet Camaro was speeding southbound behind a Toyota Sienna, also southbound, when the Camaro struck it in the back. The impact sent the Sienna off the roadway, where it collided with a tree.
According to the KCSO, a man in his 50s or 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
One driver and a passenger were rushed to area hospitals but were both ultimately transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where the driver is listed in serious condition.
Authorities said one passenger from the Camaro was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, but another passenger fled the scene on foot before first responders arrived. A third passenger sustained injuries considered minor.
The driver of the Camaro, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital. Her blood alcohol content (BAC) was later found to be more than twice the legal limit, at .16. She was arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail for an investigation into “vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault,” with a bail set at $500,000.
