SEATTLE, WA — Commuters faced a miles-long traffic backup following a collision Friday morning on northbound Interstate 5 in south Seattle, according to KOMO News.
Officials said the wreck involved multiple vehicles and was reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation (SDOT) at about 6:35 a.m., just south of Interstate 90.
While the cause of the accident has not been specified, the two right northbound lanes, along with part of the Spokane Street entrance ramp, were blocked for about a hour. Not long after, a five-mile traffic backup had formed in the area. Motorists were asked to seek alternate routes around the area.
It’s unclear whether anyone was seriously injured and/or required transport to a hospital.
By 7:30 a.m., only the ramp’s right lane remained closed, and by 8:00 a.m., all travel lanes were reported reopened.
