SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — A single-car crash Tuesday night, February 6, on State Route 534 near Mount Vernon has claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl, according to KOMO News.

The fatal wreck unfolded on a stretch of SR-534 east of Coyote Lane, prompting an emergency response at around 10:00 p.m.

Washington State Patrol troopers said the driver, a 15-year-old boy, “failed to negotiate a turn” in the roadway, which led to the vehicle striking a utility pole off the roadway’s right side.

The victim, who was among two other teenage passengers, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials noted she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

First responders transported one 15-year-old boy to Skagit Valley Hospital, while the other 15-year-old boy and the 16-year-old girl were both taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center. No information regarding the extent of their injuries has been released.

The WSP said an investigation remains underway to determine whether the 15-year-old male driver will be charged.
