The incident took place on the southbound highway (Pacific Highway) just north of 156th Street Southwest, in the northeast corner of the city. It was first reported some time after 6:00 a.m.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a 34-year-old man was dressed in all black and was crossing the highway on foot and outside of a marked crosswalk. While in the middle of the highway, he was hit by the bus, whose driver said they did not immediately see the victim and was unable to stop in time.
The male pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials. His identity has not been released at this time.
Authorities said the bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with an investigation, which remains underway.
It was unclear whether passengers were aboard the bus at the time, but no other major injuries have been reported.
