TACOMA, WA — A 44-year-old man died Tuesday night after being hit by a vehicle that fled the scene in Tacoma’s South End neighborhood, reports KOMO News.
Tacoma Police said the fatal incident took place at the corner of East 72nd Street and A Street, just north of Charlotte’s Blueberry Park, at about 10:40 p.m.
Witness accounts indicate the man was on foot when he was struck by an unspecified vehicle along East 72nd Street. The striking vehicle was then seen continuing eastbound without stopping.
Tacoma Fire Department personnel pronounced the male pedestrian deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
A section of 72nd Avenue from Pacific Avenue to East B Street was shut down for an extended period during the response and investigation, which remains ongoing.
The TPD has not issued a description of the fleeing vehicle and/or suspect at this time.
