THURSTON, WA — One person suffered severe injuries Tuesday afternoon during a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 5 in Lacey, reports FOX 13 Seattle.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes approaching Marvin Road at about 1:15 p.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a driver in either a silver SUV or pickup truck traveling southbound struck a Chrysler while changing lanes. The impact sent the Chrysler into another pickup truck, which then caused the Chrysler to lose control, veer across the center line and strike two oncoming vehicles.

Authorities confirmed one of the oncoming drivers was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries and lacerations to their face.

At this time, investigators continue to search for the driver of the silver vehicle, which fled the scene following the incident.
