SEATTLE, WA — A 52-year-old driver lost their life Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Bryn Mawr-Skyway, according to The Seattle Times.
The accident occurred on a stretch of the road (State Highway 900) approaching South 129th Street. Washington State Patrol officials reported a closure of the road just before 5:30 a.m.
An early investigation found that the victim was driving westbound when they tried to execute a U-turn. Shortly after, their vehicle was hit by another vehicle traveling the same way. The impact of the crash sent the first car past the centerline and into the opposing roadway, where it was then hit by a third car. While trying to avoid that crash, it lost control and was hit by a fourth vehicle.
The driver of the turning vehicle died from their injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.
First responders transported two other people, aged 78 and 26, to an area hospital where one of the victims was listed in serious condition.
At around 9:30 a.m., four hours after the closure, all lanes were reopened to traffic.
