SEATTLE, WA — A pair of collisions Sunday night in Seattle’s South Beacon Hill area claimed the life of a 34-year-old driver, reports KOMO News.

Seattle Police said the male driver was behind the wheel of a sedan that hit two cars waiting at a red light on 9400 Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, near 42nd Avenue South.

Moments after the multi-vehicle wreck, the man tried to flee the scene but reversed into an area auto shop. The impact caused the car to catch fire, prompting a major emergency response from both police and fire crews some time after 9:00 p.m.

While responding firefighters were able to put out the flames and remove the striking car from the structure, the driver was found deceased.

The passenger of the sedan, 26, was able to exit the vehicle before it became completely engulfed, Authorities did not immediately share more details about his injuries, but he was said to be in stable condition. As of Sunday night, he was in police custody.

No one in the other involved vehicles was reported hurt.
