PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Several people were sent to a hospital Thursday afternoon after two high-speed vehicles caused a multi-vehicle wreck in Spanaway, reports KOMO News.
The wreck occurred at the intersection of Military Road South and Spanaway Loop Road South. It was first reported by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department at 2:00 p.m.
According to witnesses, two drivers in Dodge Chargers appeared to be racing each other when one car tried to overtake the other, causing a multi-vehicle crash that injured multiple people.
Early reports suggested that children were among the victims transported to a hospital, but authorities have not yet confirmed the number or ages of the people involved. While several people were hospitalized, the injuries sustained are not believed to be serious.
Following the incident, one male driver was arrested and the other driver was cited for reckless driving.
Part of the road was temporarily closed as crews worked to tow the vehicles from the roadway.
