PIERCE COUNTY, WA — One person was fatally injured Wednesday evening due to a pedestrian collision on State Route 161 near South Hill, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The fatal incident occurred on the southbound lanes of the highway at milepost 20.08, south of 176th Street East and Pierce County Airport. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation – Tacoma at 8:40 p.m.
Few details have been made available, but by 9:00 p.m., about 20 minutes after the WSDOT report, WSP Trooper John Dattilo confirmed that the pedestrian had succumbed to their injuries.
A span of SR-161 was shut down in both directions during the response and initial investigation.
At this time, officials have not released any information about the driver or pending charges.
