SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — Multiple cows were fatally struck by a vehicle early Friday on U.S. Highway 2 near northwest Monroe, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.

The accident happened on a stretch of US-2 between the two ends of Roosevelt Road, at about 5:00 a.m.

Very few details have been made available, but Snohomish County deputies said a car collided with an unspecified number of cows in the area, while others were left roaming. Authorities did not indicate whether the driver struck the animals on or off the roadway, but a number of cattle had to be caught and coaxed off the highway.

The KIRO 7 News crews said they observed the bodies of at least three cows being transported from the scene on a flatbed truck.

While the involved vehicle was left totaled, no injuries to the driver were reported.

Several roadblocks were established on the span of the highway between the two sides of Roosevelt Road. Shortly before 7:00 a.m., the highway was completely reopened to traffic.
