THURSTON COUNTY, WA — A 33-year-old woman died Monday evening following a pedestrian crash on Interstate 5 in northeast Lacey, according to KOMO News.

Washington State Patrol officials say the incident occurred on the northbound lanes of I-5 near Carpenter Road Northeast, shortly before 6:00 p.m.

The events leading up to the crash remain under investigation, but preliminary details show the pedestrian, of Hazelwood, Missouri, was hit by a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 48-year-old man.

First responders confirmed the victim died from her injuries at the scene.

The male driver, who remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, was not suspected of impairment.

All northbound traffic was forced to divert off the interstate at Exit 109 during the emergency response and investigation, leading to a three-mile backup by 6:40 p.m.

At this time, investigators are working to determine why the victim was on the interstate at the time of the event.
