KING COUNTY, WA — Several people employees were injured, one critically, Tuesday afternoon when a DUI suspect crashed their car into a Puyallup restaurant, reports FOX 13 Seattle.
The incident unfolded at Don’s Drive-In, off the corner of South Meridian and 10th Avenue Southeast. Puyallup Police officers and rescue units were dispatched to the scene at about 1:30 p.m.
According to an early investigation, a 64-year-old Bonney Lake resident was impaired when he drove his car into the north side of the business. The sudden impact caused grease from a kitchen fryer to splash all over a 48-year-old man who is employed by the restaurant.
The victim was rushed to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.
First responders treated two other employees at the scene for more minor injuries related to the grease spill. Both patients were released from the site and did not require hospitalization.
Puyallup Police said the driver was taken into custody and booked into Pierce County Jail. He faces charges of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
Following the crash, the building was inspected by the City of Puyallup Building Department and the Central Pierce Technical Rescue Team. Both agencies determined that the business is required to shut down for the time being due to structural damage.
An investigation remains underway.
