PIERCE COUNTY, WA — One person died early Saturday morning after a crash involving a motorcycle on State Route 16 in Gig Harbor, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The fatal accident unfolded on the eastbound side of SR-16 near milepost 12, just east of the Pioneer Way/Wollochet Drive Northwest overpass. It was first reported by WSP Trooper John Dattilo just before 1:30 a.m.
Little information has been disclosed, but officials said a motorcycle and a passenger car were involved in a crash that resulted in the death of one person. The WSP did not immediately confirm whether the decedent was the motorcyclist.
All eastbound lanes of the highway were closed during the emergency response.

An investigation was underway. No pending charges have been reported as of this writing.
