KING COUNTY, WA — Three people died early Monday following a head-on collision on Interstate 90 on Mercer Island, reports KOMO News.

The accident happened on the eastbound lanes near Island Crest Way. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation at about 12:20 a.m. and prompted a response from the Washington State Patrol and multiple Eastside Fire and Rescue crews.

According to a crash report released by WSP, a 30-year-old Seattle man was operating a 2018 Subaru WRX westbound on the eastbound interstate when it collided head-on with a 2012 Chrysler 300.

First responders pronounced the driver of the Subaru deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 22-year-old Bellevue man, along with his passenger, a 23-year-old Berkeley, California resident, also both died from their injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

A section of the eastbound interstate was closed for more than 5 hours

At this time, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed. An investigation remains underway, but drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors.
