KING COUNTY, WA — Authorities have initiated an international search for a 26-year-old woman who fled the country after a crash late last month in Bellevue that claimed a man’s life, reports KOMO News.
The fatal crash unfolded in the area of 108th Avenue Northeast and State Route 520 on Saturday, September 30, at about 3:45 a.m.
Preliminary details, including skid marks and other evidence recovered at the scene, indicate that Ting Ye, 26, was driving a Porsche well over 100 miles per hour when the Porsche hit a barrier and became airborne. The vehicle then struck the side of a bridge and before coming to rest on its roof.
Authorities say emergency responders were not alerted of the crash until nearly 45 minutes later, when a passing motorist observed the wreckage.
Both the driver and her passenger, 27-year-old Yabao Liu, had to be extricated from the severely damaged vehicle. Liu, who suffered fatal injuries, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As noted in court documents, a first responder recalled “a strong odor of alcohol” coming from Ye, who was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where she reportedly refused to cooperate with an investigation.
Despite the severity of her condition, the Bellevue Police Department said they were not notified when Ye was released from the hospital. Investigators later learned that she had been driven across the border to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she later boarded a flight to her native China.
Authorities say Ye faces a charge of vehicular homicide in Liu’s death, with a bail set at $2 million. The person who assisted her in leaving the country could also face charges.
