KING COUNTY, WA — Authorities arrested a 44-year-old woman after a wrong-way crash Monday night on Interstate 5 in Tukwila that left several people injured, reports KOMO News.

The events unfolded on the northbound side of I-5 near Southcenter Parkway, in an area just south of I-405. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation at 8:05 p.m.

Washington State Patrol troopers said the woman was behind the wheel of a 2003 Toyota RAV4 traveling southbound on the right shoulder of northbound I-5. At one point, the RAV4 drove into a northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2010 Toyota Prius.

The impact of the initial crash sent the RAV4 spinning before it was hit by a 2008 Chevy Express. The Prius, which was sent into a separate lane, was hit by a 2021 Toyota Tacoma.

Authorities said the driver of the wrong-way Toyota RAV4, who was transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center for unspecified injuries, was placed under custody. She faces charges of DUI and vehicular assault.

First responders also rushed the driver of the Prius, a 53-year-old man, to Valley Medical Center, where his conditions remains undisclosed, while the driver of the Chevy Express, a 36-year-old man, was treated for injuries at the scene. The fourth driver was not reported hurt.

The crash and subsequent response had the northbound interstate shut down for nearly 5 hours and 40 minutes. By 1:50 a.m., all travel lanes were reopened to traffic.
