SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A single-vehicle wreck Tuesday night in Index claimed the life of a 38-year-old man and left two other people injured, reports KOMO News.

The fatal accident unfolded near milepost 36, about half a mile east of Index-Galena Road. It was first reported by the Washington State Department of Transportation at around 9:30 p.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the man was driving a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer westbound when, for reasons still being investigated, the vehicle traveled past the highway’s right shoulder and hit a tree.

First responders worked to extricated two trapped passengers, a 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, both of Everett. They were transported to a local hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old Jason Wagner, also of Everett, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities are working to determine that cause of the crash, but drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors.
