SEATTLE, WA — A collision Friday morning caused significant delays on the southbound Interstate 5 Express in Seattle’s South Lake Union area, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The accident happened on the southbound lanes of I-5, south of Exit 167 to Mercer Street. It was first recorded by WSDOT at 10:40 a.m.
Details about the crash have not been made public, but WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT) and Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the scene shortly after.
At 11:30 a.m., about 50 minutes after the initial report, officials indicated that the closure was expected to remain in place for an extended time.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was seriously injured or taken to a hospital.
