KING COUNTY, WA — Two people died early Saturday following a wrong-way collision in southeast Bothell that left a third person injured, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The fatal wreck took place on the southbound side of Interstate 405, north of Northeast 160th Street and Juanita Woodinville Way Northeast (Exit 22). It was first reported by WSP Trooper Rick Johnson shortly after 3:00 a.m.

Authorities have not said what may have caused a vehicle to enter the interstate in the wrong direction, but both the wrong-way driver and the driver of the victim vehicle died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

A passenger in the victim vehicle was rushed to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.

A span of southbound I-405 was shut down as crews tended to the scene, forcing traffic to divert onto State Route 522. Motorists were warned of an extended closure.

By 7:36 a.m., the WSP had completed a preliminary investigation and all travel lanes were reported reopened to traffic.

No further information has been disclosed at this time.
